Young forward-ruckman Archer Reid had his first training session with new West Coast teammates on Monday and is very eager to make a difference at his first AFL club.
Reid was drafted at Pick 30 from Inverloch-Kongwak and the Gippsland Power. He is known for his excellent overhead marking, accurate goalkicking and clean hands below his knees for his height of 203cm.
Reid is the younger brother to Essendon defender Zach Reid, so he is aware of what is required at AFL level.
He spoke about his first session at the club on Monday and how exciting it was being out on the track with his new teammates.
“Surreal. It was great to get out there, I was so excited,” said Reid.
“I felt really comfortable. The boys make you feel really welcome out there, especially the veterans, they're great and the young boys."
Reid is joined by some familiar faces at the club, with fellow Gippsland players Coby Burgiel and Ryan Maric helping him settle in over the weekend.
“I know Coby Burgiel and Ryan Maric and they made me feel so welcome, I was just hanging out with them on Saturday," said Reid.
Reid averaged 13.5 disposals, five marks and kicked 16 goals in his 11 Talent League matches for Gippsland this year. He also played in all of the U18 National Championships games for Vic Country.
The youngster becomes the equal-tallest player on the Eagles' senior list alongside 2022 draftee Harry Barnett.
Reid believes he can make an impact at the club in his first year with his ability to take high marks and his aerial power, hoping to be a "long-term player".
"I reckon I can make a difference," said Reid.
“I'm going to be very competitive and try my best. I want to do really well for the club and be a long-term player.”
He also mentioned he is keen to be working alongside and being mentored by star forward Oscar Allen and veteran key forward Jack Darling.
Reid was joined by other draftees in No.1 draft selection Harley Reid, and midfielders Clay Hall and Harvey Johnston in heading to West Coast.
