Essendon has reportedly knocked back a trade deal from Greater Western Sydney that would have seen that Bombers give up their first round draft selection in order to secure small forward, Devon Smith.

The Giants' proposal, according to FoxSports, would have seen Essendon trade pick 11 to GWS and in return receive Smith, and pick 23 from the Giants.

However, the Dons rejected the deal.

Smith, along with Jake Stringer and Adam Saad have all nominated Essendon as their preferred destination this trade period and Essendon looks likely to have to part ways with pick No.11 at some stage. However, for who, remains to be seen.

The Bombers were reportedly also in talks with the Gold Coast Suns on Monday about a deal for Saad which would include a similar swapping of picks.

Meanwhile, the Western Bulldogs have also stated they want pick 11 for Stringer.

Essendon's second pick in the draft is currently No.28, which they are understood to be willing to exchange for Smith at this stage. If the Bombers are to secure all three trade targets the club may need to offer future picks.

Despite the current road blocks, Essendon remains confident it can land all three players.

Meanwhile, the Bombers are said to be willing to part ways with former No.6 draft pick, Aaron Francis, if a suitable deal arises, with the 20-year-old expressing his desire to return home to South Australia.
