The Brisbane Lions are prepared to make a shock play for contracted Fremantle star Lachie Neale, according to a report by SEN's Sam McClure.

McClure told SEN that the Lions were going "hammer and tong" to land the Dockers' star midfielder for next season.

McClure said pick four was on the table for the 25-year-old, which could give Freo two top-10 selections (four and five) in the upcoming national draft.

"Forces are at work at the Brisbane Lions to lure contracted Fremantle star Lachie Neale to Queensland for next year,” McClure informed SEN's Whately

“Neale is open to exploring the option, but he is yet to inform Brisbane of that. Now the chances of Lachie Neale being in a Brisbane jumper next year are real.

“The only stepping stone is that he is contracted and the ability of Fremantle to have the power to hold him to that contract.

“Brisbane is open to trading their coveted first-round selection, which is currently pick four.”

Neale's last contract extension was three-year deal in 2016, meaning he has an another season to run on his contract.

The South Australian has played 145 matches at the Dockers since arriving at the club in 2011 through the national draft.

He is a strong chance to win a Doig Medal this season after becoming one of the Dockers' most consistent players, and was listed in the AFL's initial 2018 All-Australian team of 40.
