REPORTS: Mega offer for Shiel may not be enough: Barrett

In-demand GWS midfielder Dylan Shiel is nearing a return to Victoria, and St Kilda's offer for the star Giant is up there with one of the most lucrative offers in recent years.

According to Damian Barrett, the Saints are offering $8 million over six years, although Barrett understands even that might not be enough to help him land at Moorabbin.

“Of the four Melbourne clubs Dylan Shiel is now engaging with, the biggest offer ... is from St Kilda,” Barrett told The Trade Table.

“It’s at a rate of more than $8 million over a six-year offer. It’s clearly the biggest financial offer that he’s got.

“But I still believe that when this is all played out that it’ll be Hawthorn’s offer that’s the best straight football case that he answers.”

Barrett went on to suggest Hawthorn's offer to Shiel is less than $1 million a season.

Regardless of which offer entices the 25-year-old more, Barrett would be "staggered" if Shiel remains in western Sydney in 2019.

“I’d be staggered if he’s going through the rigmarole of this, of shopping himself around, engaging in serious conversations with clubs, if the end result is for him to stay with the Giants.”
