Geelong ruckman Zac Smith could be on the move in the upcoming trade period after he was unable to break into his side’s best 22.
The Cats had countless ruck issues throughout the season, but Smith was overlooked on almost all of them given he played just the three games this season.
Mitch Cleary told AFL Trade Radio that believes Essendon and Gold Coast are both interested in acquiring the ruckman.
“He’s a former Gold Coast player, clearly not in (Geelong’s) number one (ruck) slot right now, Rhys Stanley has gone above him and even Mark Blicavs,” Cleary said.
“Smith has interest from Gold Coast to move back there and Essendon are also showing interest.
“The Bombers were keen on Paddy Ryder and they’re looking at someone else to come in as a ready-made option behind Tom Bellchambers and Sam Draper.
“Keep an eye on Smith with Gold Coast and Essendon.”
He played 44 games in his first two years with Geelong, but has only managed six since after spending the first five years of his AFL career with Gold Coast.
