Herald Sun journalist and SEN Breakfast's own Sam Edmund has reported that St Kilda and the Western Bulldogs are interested in fringe Geelong ruckman Zac Smith.

Smith has found himself playing VFL this year with the likes of Rhys Stanley, Esava Ratugolea, Darcy Fort and Ryan Abbott battling it out for the number one ruck position.

Stanley has played 16 games as the number one ruckman where Smith has only managed three games as he bides his time in the two's.

"Zac Smith pretty much remains the only unsigned ruckman there and you'd have to say his future is really uncertain," Edmund told SEN Breakfast.

"Rhys Stanley's contracted, Ratugolea's tied until 2021, Darcy Fort and Ryan Abbott both until 2020."

"Zac Smith might be the one left without a chair when the music stops down there."

When asked if any clubs are keen to sign Smith, Edmund said: "The Western Bulldogs and St Kilda have both shown interest in Zac."

Geelong will kick off their finals campaign this Friday night against Collingwood with Stanley most likely going to win the ruck battle and go head-to-head with Pies star Brodie Grundy.
