REPORTS: Geelong pursuing Martin

The Cats are targeting Lions ruckman Stefan Martin, according to a report by Seven News Melbourne.

Ex-Saint Rhys Stanley's emergence was monumental this season, finally giving Geelong a solution in the ruck.

But when the 27-year old went down with a calf injury late in the season, the Cats scrambled to replace him.

In last week's elimination final, Geelong opted to play then three-gamer Ryan Abbott over former Sun Zac Smith, and realistically, Stanley isn't the ideal power ruckman himself.

Hence their interest in the 31-year old Martin, who would more than fit the bill if available.

“Geelong very active, they need a ruckman. I believe they’re eyeing Lion Stefan Martin, at least putting a few feelers out,” Stevens told Seven News Melbourne.

Stevens later posted on Twitter that “would be very hard man to prise out of Brisbane”.

Martin is arguably the most underrated ruckman in the competition, coming off another dominant campaign where he averaged 18.7 disposals, 4.0 marks and 33.9 hitouts per contest.
