Carlton keen on Rockliff

Brisbane Lions midfielder Tom Rockliff will become a restricted free agent at season's end, and is set to weigh up his future with a number of clubs keen on his services.

While it was reported last week that Port Adelaide have now entered the race to sign Rockliff, Damian Barrett told Triple M on Saturday afternoon that one Victorian club has already made contact with the Lions and Rockliff.

“He was contracted going into this year, he’s served that contract,” Barrett told Triple M's Saturday Rub.

“(He) will be seeking the market place interest again.

“The Carlton footy club has approached him and have also approached the Lions to let them know they will be speaking to Rockliff, and that’s an option for him.

“Port Adelaide is (also) interested in him.”

With Carlton midfielder Bryce Gibbs set to request a trade back to Adelaide for the second year in a row, Rockliff would fill the void left by Gibbs, and would slot into the Blues' midfield seamlessly.

“I think crucial to Carlton’s interest in him is the near-certainty - in fact the certainty - that Bryce Gibbs will attempt to go again back to Adelaide,” Barrett added.

“He is contracted and they may still push back on that, but if that does go down a path that is different to last time they asked that question, Rockliff is there as a back-up option.”
