REPORTS: Victorian clubs circling as Giants hold off on Smith talks

At least three clubs are interested in GWS Giant Devon Smith according to Seven News Melbourne journalist Tom Browne, who believes talks have stopped between the two parties.

Browne believes the Giants have withdrawn their most recent offer to Smith due to salary cap pressure, meaning opposition clubs won't have to worry about the Giants matching their offer to the 24-year-old.

Smith has been with the Giants since their inaugural season, and has played 105 games for GWS since making his debut with the club in round 1, 2012.

Browne understands Carlton and Geelong are leading the race for the forward, while Hawthorn and Collingwood also loom as destinations for Smith.

Browne also posed a question regarding the Giants and their salary cap issues, wondering why they withdrew their offer for Smith.

The likely scenario is to create more cap room for Josh Kelly, who has been linked with a big-money move away from Sydney.

It was reported earlier this season that North Melbourne had offered Kelly a nine-year deal worth nine-million dollars, while the Giants' offer to Kelly was just a two-year deal.

Kelly is reportedly still weighing up both offers, with an announcement on his future likely to wait until season's end.
