Sydney's first round draft pick Nick Blakey has already signed a contract extension with the Swans despite failing to play an AFL game, with the club reportedly tying him down for an extra two seasons.

Blakey was selected at pick 10 as an Academy selecton, and has since has his contract extended until at least the end of the 2022 season, according to AFL.com.au.

Blakey was originally contracted until the end of the 2020 campaign, as players selected in the national draft receive a two-year contract.

The 18-year-old isn't the first young Swan to be handed a longer contract before making his AFL debut, with Isaac Heeney and Callum Mills also following the same path.

Blakey's father John is currently an assistant coach at the Swans, although the young gun could have opted to go to North Melbourne or Brisbane as a father-son pick.
