The Brisbane Lions have added former GWS forward Daniel Lloyd and retired star Daniel Rich to their coaching ranks ahead of the pre-season.

It comes amidst a series of changes to the Lions' coaching department after their narrow four-point grand final loss to Collingwood, with backline coach Jed Adcock landing at North Melbourne, whilst their strategy coach Mark Stone has also left the club.

Brisbane attempted to sign Collingwood assistant coach Scott Selwood, however he will remain at the Magpies, looking after their forward line for the 2024 season.

Dale Morris was promoted to backline coach under Chris Fagan, and Lloyd will fill his former role of development coach under head of development Scott Borlace.

Lloyd played 101 games with the Giants, including a role in their 2023 finals series where they fell a point short of a grand final berth.

“I am excited and grateful for the opportunity to be joining a great club that has been successful and a consistent performer for a number of years now,” Lloyd said in a Lions statement.

“One thing I've always felt is a strength of mine is my ability to build great relationships with people of all ages and that will be something I continue to do at the Lions to help me be the best coach I can be.

“My career wasn't straight forward or a traditional one, and I had to work extremely hard to achieve what I did, so there's plenty of learnings I can take from my journey and pass on.

“I just want to be a helping hand that can offer some guidance to the younger players and the older players if there are ways I can help them too.”

Rich will commence a wide-ranging role in both development under Borlace and wellbeing under Andrew Crowell, electing to stay with the club that he spent 15 years playing for.

Rich featured in 275 games for the Lions, however form issues throughout 2023 saw him miss out on selection for a fairytale grand final appearance.

“We are delighted to have Daniel remain at our Club in his new role across both departments which we believe he will offer great value to,” Brisbane football boss Danny Daly said.

“Daniel has had a fantastic career as a player, and we look forward to him bringing his experience and knowledge to our playing group for season 2024 and beyond.”

Rich will also dedicate half of his time working with the Lions' commercial team in the sponsorship sector.
