Reigning SANFL premiers Glenelg have announced a massive recruitment coup for the 2025 season, signing retired Brisbane veteran Jarryd Lyons.

The Tigers have swooped on the 32-year-old over a month after he called time on his 194 AFL game career, with Lyons noted as one of the best state league players in the country.

Lyons claimed the 2023 J.J. Liston Trophy as the VFL's best player and finished fifth for the award this year after a stellar campaign with Brisbane's reserves, averaging 29.5 disposals, 8.6 score involvements and 8.0 clearances per game.

The Victorian played three games at AFL level for the Lions this year, his most recent coming in Round 6 against Geelong as the tactical sub.

Lyons, a former Adelaide and Gold Coast player, has returned to South Australia with his move to The Bay, linking up with brother Corey - another former Lions listed player - at Glenelg.

"I'm excited to be back to, in a way, where it all began," Lyons said.

"The family touch is also a huge plus, and I can't wait to run out with Corey in an official game for the first time. Looking forward to getting after winning the club's third premiership in a row."

Glenelg claimed their second successive SANFL premiership in September with a win over Norwood by five points, adding to last year's flag-winning victory over Sturt.

Speaking on the Lyons acquisition, coach Darren Reeves said the veteran onballer's experience will be greatly welcomed.

"We're absolutely thrilled to have Jarryd at the Bays in 2025," Reeves said.

"He brings great experience, still playing outstanding football, and will be a great addition to our playing group both on and off the field. It will be great to see him playing with Corey also."

Lyons is Glenelg's first signing of the off-season.
