Former Blue and Geelong premiership defender Zach Tuohy has signed with the Bacchus Marsh Cobras for the 2025 season.

Tuohy retired at the conclusion of the 2024 AFL season after playing 286 games for the Blues and Cats. The Irish native overtook Jim Stynes for most AFL games played by an Irish-born footballer in 2023 after becoming just the second Irish player to win an AFL premiership in 2022, ten years since Tadhg Kennelly achieved the feat in 2012.

Tuohy recently made headlines late last year after he revealed a tumultuous period of being coached by Brendan Bolton at Carlton in his autobiography, revealing that he had to leave for his "own sake" despite loving the club, hence his trade out west to Geelong.

Tuohy joins Bacchus Marsh in the Ballarat Football Netball League (BFNL). The Cobras finished ninth on the ladder in 2024, with hopes the addition of Tuohy can improve their 4-12 record from last year.

Bacchus Marsh said they were overjoyed with Tuohy's arrival at the club.

"We are thrilled to announce that Geelong premiership star Zach Tuohy is becoming a Cobra!" the club statement read.

"Zach called time on his extraordinary AFL career at the conclusion of the 2024 season, having played 286 games with the Carlton and Geelong Football Clubs. Recruited from his beloved Portlaoise in County Laoise in Ireland, Zach's story is like no other.

"Our club is excited to now be a part of his story and we look forward to welcoming Zach, his wife, Bec and their boys Flynn and Rafferty to the Cobra Family!"

Bacchus Marsh's season begins on April 5th.
