Suns fans can expect to see veteran Hugh Greenwood back in Gold Coast colours this year, with the former three-club utility expected to feature for the club's VFL side in 2025.
Greenwood has returned to Carrara after retiring at North Melbourne, joining the Suns as a development coach under Damien Hardwick for the year ahead.
The 32-year-old will suit up for the Suns' reserves throughout the VFL season, likely filling in at selection when short on numbers.
Greenwood played 121 games across his time in the AFL, with 32 matches coming from his pair of seasons in Queensland.
His career started at Adelaide following a career in basketball, with Greenwood amassing 51 games with the Crows prior to a move to Gold Coast.
He would sensationally leave the Suns for North Melbourne ahead of the 2022 season after the Roos made a surprise play for the athletic forward ahead of the Rookie Draft once he was momentarily delisted.
Gold Coast's reserves have been a contender in the state league competition over the past three seasons, finishing seventh, first and fifth on the ladder - taking out the premiership in 2023.
Their skipper that season, James Tsitas, will also feature for the Suns in the VFL this year despite being cut from the club's AFL team over the off-season.
Tsitas has landed a coaching role with the club, working on tackling as well as strength and conditioning.
On top of their reliance on available AFL-listed players, the Suns' VFL team has been able to blood Academy talent to help top-up selection in recent seasons.
The likes of Leonardo Lombard, Ethan Read, Jake Rogers, Will Graham and Lachlan Gulbin featured in the Suns' state league side before being drafted to the club in recent seasons, with Lombard even a member of the club's premiership side of two years ago.
2025 draft prospects Zeke Uwland and Dylan Patterson broke through for VFL debuts last year and are likely to see more action at the level as part of their draft campaigns.
