Richmond midfielder Dion Prestia will be sidelined for the coming weeks after sustaining a fresh hamstring issue this week.

The Tigers veteran was unable to see out Wednesday's intra-club session due to 'hamstring awareness', with subsequent scans confirming a minor setback for the 31-year-old.

The ailment is set to sideline Prestia for his side's first of two practice matches this month, with the Tigers hopeful the three-time premiership onballer is available for the club's Community Series meeting with Collingwood on February 27.

โ€œDion unfortunately had some hamstring awareness early in Wednesday's match simulation, which, following scans, we have decided will require a short rehabilitation period,โ€ Richmond physical performance manager Luke Meehan said.

โ€œWe anticipate he will be back training fully in a couple of weeks."

Prestia managed 20 games in the yellow and black last year, the first time the ex-Suns draftee managed that many appearances in a single season since 2019.

His latest setback adds to the Tigers' current injury woes, with Tom Lynch (foot), Dylan Grimes (calf) and Nick Vlastuin (concussion) also currently out of action.

Richmond are scheduled to face Melbourne at Casey Fields on February 18 for their opening pre-season hitout and first look under new coach Adem Yze.

The Tigers' new era under the former Demons assistant will officially get underway in early March when Richmond travel to Carrara to face ex-senior coach Damien Hardwick and the Gold Coast Suns.
