Both Richmond and St Kilda are facing injury concerns to their key-position stocks a month our from Round 1.

The Tigers have seen their rehab group expand with the addition of Nathan Broad, Ivan Soldo and Noah Cumberland training on modified programs this week.

Key forward Tom Lynch is building his fitness after requiring foot surgery in recent months, with Richmond hoping to be near full strength for their clash against Carlton at the MCG.

A hamstring issue has hampered Broad's pre-season planning however, withย 7 Newsย revealing the triple premiership defender is under an injury cloud but expected to be a strong chance to play in the AFL's season opener.

"Defender Nathan Broad has joined the injury list with a hamstring complaint," reporter Mitch Cleary said on Thursday night.

"The Tigers (are) confident he will be there Round 1, but he was in the rehab group with Ivan Soldo and Naoh Cumberland today after their scans on Monday.

"Tom Lynch (is) slowly building his fitness after foot surgery in the off-season."

Richmond and Carlton will go head-to-head at the MCG to begin the 2023 season on Thursday, March 16, while the Tigers will also feature in pre-season clashes against North Melbourne and Melbourne in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile,ย 7 Newsย have also reported St Kilda forward Tim Membrey has required an operation on his knee a month out from his side's season opener.

The 28-year-old isn't expected to miss the Saints' clash with Fremantle, however some time away from main training is expected for the coming weeks.

Membrey firms as a crucial piece in senior coach Ross Lyon's Round 1 plans, with tall forward trio Max King (shoulder), Jack Hayes (foot) and Matt Allison (foot) all currently sidelined with ailments of their own.

Membrey booted 34 goals from 22 games in 2022 to sit second on St Kilda's goalkicking tally for the season, only behind King who had 52 majors for the year.

The Saints have managed to bolster their forward line in the past week with the addition of Northern Knights product Anthony Caminiti, who has joined the club as an SSP recruit after impressing with his athletic ability as a 196cm forward.

St Kilda will host the Dockers at Marvel Stadium on Sunday, March 19 to end the season's opening round.
