Richmond have placed Kaleb Smith on the inactive list, opening a second spot ahead of next week's mid-season draft.
Smith was drafted by the club with Pick No.49 in the 2022 AFL Draft and is yet to make his senior debut for the club after suffering a bone stress injury to his right foot.
The 18-year-old will now be sidelined for the remainder of the season as he continues his recovery.
“We are very disappointed for Kaleb and the Club that he will not play any football in his debut season, particularly after how much he impressed us with his pre-season match play,” Richmond list boss Blair Hartley said.
“He has fitted into the group well, worked diligently with our medical staff, and been very positive throughout his time on the sidelines.
“Unfortunately, after seeing some specialists outside the Club and with a stagnating recovery timeline, we have decided to place him as inactive with a view to his long-term future.
“We will continue to treat Kaleb's injury carefully through this period.”
The Tigers now have two list spots available for the 2023 mid-season draft, set to be held on Wednesday, May 31. Jason Castagna's retirement announcement in January opened up the first list vacancy at Punt Road.
“We are excited about the prospect of bringing two new players to the Club,” Hartley said.
321 players have nominated for this year's mid-season draft, including several ex-AFL players such as Quinton Narkle and Caleb Poulter.
