Richmond are likely to be without ruckmen Ivan Soldo and Toby Nankervis for a second straight week as the pair battle foot and ankle injuries respectively.

Soldo was withdrawn from the Tigers' Round 8 squad to face West Coast less than 24 hours from the match, with forward Noah Cumberland brought into the selected side.

A foot injury has hampered the premiership tall in recent days, with the ailment potentially keeping Soldo out of action for a second week.

Soldo's absence comes as Nankervis continues to recover from an ankle injury which will keep the Tigers co-captain in the casualty ward until Round 10 at the earliest.

"Ivan's dealing with a pretty tricky foot problem," Richmond's physical performance manager Luke Meehan said in a club injury update.

"He's a test for later this week. We're hoping things progress really well, and if he gets through some work later in the week, he'll be available. But, we'll have to see where it's at.

"Toby's going really well which is great. He's working really hard, as everyone would expect. We're hoping to get him involved in a little bit of football this week, and all things being good, available next week possibly, but definitely the week after."

Meehan has revealed that young defender Josh Gibcus is in line for his first minutes of football for the year after sustaining a serious hamstring injury in the pre-season.

The second-year Tiger is expected to feature in Richmond's VFL clash with Geelong at Punt Road Oval on Saturday as he takes the next step in his recovery from the hamstring strain.

"It's been a long time, Josh has had a few setbacks with his wound," Meehan said.

"Things have been really good the last four-to-six weeks, he's put in a really good block. All things being good and he trains this week, he'll be available for some minutes in the VFL this Saturday, which will be exciting."

Maurice Rioli is still continuing in his recovery from a hamstring injury and will require further treatment before making a return to the field, while star forward Tom Lynch remains "a while away" according to Meehan.

Key defender Robbie Tarrant is in the mix for a return to football in the coming weeks, while young trio Tom Brown (wrist, short-term), Seth Campbell (adductor, medium-term) and Kaleb Smith (ankle, long-term) are all continuing with their respective recoveries.

Uncapped ruckman Mate Colina will return to the club this week after taking time away amid his recovery from a back issue. Colina has been listed with an indefinite timeframe in his plans to return to action.
