Richmond have secured the signature of off-contract ruckman Samson Ryan to a new three-year deal.

Set to reach the end of his current contract at Punt Road this year, Ryan has penned a fresh extension to be tied to the Tigers until the end of the 2027 season.

Viewed as an integral part of the club's future, the versatile key position talent is set to add to his 19 appearances at AFL level for Richmond.

“Samson has shown that he has the traits to be a consistent AFL player, and his ability to play ruck and forward makes him a challenging prospect for the opposition,” Tigers talent boss Blair Hartley said in a club statement.

“He has a strong work ethic, and we know he will give himself every chance to take his game to even higher levels across the next three years.

“We look forward to seeing Samson continue to grow as a player which is an exciting prospect for us.”

Ryan, who joined the Tigers through the 2020 AFL Draft as a product out of Brisbane's Academy, made his debut during is rookie season against St Kilda.

The 23-year-old showed further signs for the future last year across his 14 matches, averaging 12.21 hitouts and booting 12 goals.

Learning from captain Toby Nankervis during his developmental years, Ryan has stepped into a role at senior level on four occasions already this year as he continues to press his case as both a ruck and forward talent.

An ankle injury has currently sidelined Ryan, who could return to the field next week.
