Richmond superstar Dustin Martin has met with close friend, former mentor and new Gold Coast Suns coach Damien Hardwick in Queensland as he enjoys a holiday in the Sunshine State.

Martin's name has been raised as a potential trade option for Hardwick to consider as the triple premiership coach looks to add to the Suns' list this off-season ahead of his first year in charge of the competition's second-youngest club.

While contracted at Punt Road until the end of next year on close to $1.4 million, Martin has been tied to the Suns given Gold Coast's prior interest in his services and the arrival of Hardwick.

With Tigers veterans Trent Cotchin and Jack Riewoldt calling time on their decorated careers, coupled with the Richmond coaching change, Martin is said to be feeling "a bit disenchanted" entering this off-season, according to senior reporter Caroline Wilson.

In the latest chapter of the saga that surrounds the three-time Norm Smith Medal winner, Martin was captured meeting with Hardwick on the Gold Coast on Thursday.

Martin is believed to be likely to remain with Richmond and see out the final year of the lucrative seven-year deal he signed at the end of 2017.

The Richmond champion was an integral part of the Tigers' three premierships between 2017 and 2020 under Hardwick, with the pair headlining the most recent dynasty of the competition.

The Tigers are expected to open trade talks with the Suns this off-season, however those advances are likely to centre around Gold Coast's top draft selection at Pick 4.

Richmond are among several clubs said to be keen on acquiring the first-round pick, with the Tigers looking to move back toward the top of the draft order after parting with their own first draft selection last off-season in a trade with GWS.

Currently, the Tigers will enter the draft at Pick 25 - their own second-round selection.
