Injured Port Adelaide duo Xavier Duursma and Zak Butters are both set for lengthy stints on the sidelines in the fallout from Friday night's win over Richmond.

It is, however, somewhat of a positive outcome for Duursma, with initial fears he hay have ruptured his ACL.

Duursma suffered a significant hyperextension of his right knee and will now undergo surgery on the lateral ligament in the coming days.

His return date will become clearer over the next few weeks.

Meanwhile, Butters will seek further medical advice around the ankle syndesmosis injury which caused him to be subbed out of the game.

The Power released the following statement on the club website about the duo.

"Port Adelaide midfielder Xavier Duursma is set to spend a period on the sidelines after scans confirmed a knee ligament injury," the statement reads.

"Duursma suffered a significant hyperextension of his right knee which forced him off during the last quarter of Port’s win over Richmond on Friday night.

"The 20-year-old will undergo surgery on the lateral ligament in the next few days and a timeframe for his return to playing will become clearer in coming weeks.

"Fellow midfielder Zak Butters will seek further medical advice around the management of an ankle injury which saw him subbed off in the same game.

"An MRI has shown an ankle syndesmosis injury. The club will provide an update on his treatment when it becomes available."

The club will release more information around the pair when it becomes available.
