Fremantle veteran David Mundy is reportedly being courted by rival clubs to join them in an off-field role in 2023, just days after announcing his retirement.

Mundy announced that he would be hanging up the boots earlier in the week after 18 years and 371 games with the Dockers, now looking likely to use his nearly two decades of experience in the game in an off-field role.

Speaking at his retirement press conference on Monday, the former Freo skipper admitted that going into a coaching role was a direction he would be interested in.

"I've built up a lot of knowledge and latent understanding of how the game is played at the moment," Mundy said.

"That's certainly a direction I'll be exploring."

Reporter Paddy Sweeney said on Nine News Perth on Thursday night that Mundy is set to meet with his manager while in Melbourne to take on the Western Bulldogs to discuss his options going forward.

Clubs in Melbourne are reportedly keen on Mundy joining in a coaching or development role, with a move back to the east coast potentially on the cards for the 37-year-old.

Fremantle take on the Western Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium on Saturday afternoon to try and regain their standing in the top four.
