At least one rival club is reportedly keeping tabs on Christian Petracca's situation at Melbourne, with the star Demon said to be "disgruntled" after a frustrating period.
Petracca, who has been sidelined since the Demons' King's Birthday game against Collingwood in mid-June due to a spleen injury, saw his 2024 campaign come to an abrupt end after he was risked on the field against the Magpies before eventually receiving hospital treatment.
The Demons have since won just three games and currently sit on a four-game losing streak as the club enters the final two weeks of the home and away season without a hope of finals football.
Petracca, who is contracted for the next five seasons after inking a long-term deal in 2021, has "become increasingly unhappy" with the club and would "likely ask for a trade tomorrow" if he could, perย 9 News'ย Tom Morris.
Petracca's tense situation at Melbourne even has one club "watching the situation closely".
"I can tell you tonight Petracca is disgruntled and particularly disillusioned with the club's direction," Morris said on Monday.
"Petracca's a pro, he's desperate for another flag, but he has become increasingly unhappy in the wake of his season-ending spleen injury.
"His disenchantment, which is not directed at the coach, has now become so palpable that if he was out of contract, the four-time All-Australian would likely ask for a trade tomorrow.
Christian Petracca's a consummate pro. He's desperate for another flag, but he has become increasingly unhappy with the direction of the Demons in the wake of his season-ending spleen injury.

"But the reality is he has five years left on his contract, and it's basically impossible to see how the Dees would agree to let their best player go even if he did demand a trade.
"For now, teammates are aware of his frustrations, some even share them, key officials are aware too but standing firm he will not be traded under any circumstances.
"One rival club also understands how unsettled Petracca is and they're watching the situation closely."
Any exit for Petracca would come as a massive shock, with the Norm Smith Medal winner a key piece in Simon Goodwin's arsenal.
Fellow midfield star Clayton Oliver was linked to a move elsewhere last year before the Demons managed to pour cold water over internal frustrations, however Oliver's name has again been raised in trade speculation this year. The Demons have repeatedly refuted the chance of Oliver leaving the club this year.
Oliver is contracted until the end of the 2030 season and has played every game this year despite a heavily-interrupted pre-season due to personal health concerns.
