Sydney has ruled themselves out of a move for Essendon forward Jake Stringer this off-season, while the club has provided the latest on plans to secure star midfielder Chad Warner to a new deal.
The Swans have been tied to Stringer's services ahead of next week's trade period, with GWS and Collingwood also reported to have shown some level of interest in the one-time premiership Bulldog.
Stringer is under contract at Essendon for the next 12 months but is said to be seeking a longer contract in the AFL, one which won't be on the table from the Bombers, who have stated he is open to looking for a multi-year deal on the open market.
The 30-year-old has garnered attention from both NSW clubs while assessing his options, with Collingwood pulling the pin on a potential move for the maligned attacker in recent weeks.
Sydney has now followed suit, with Swans CEO Tom Harley confirming on Thursday that the Harbour City side won't be pursuing Stringer this year.
"No, no, it won't be Jake Stringer," Harley said on Whateley.
"Our focus has clearly been on retention of the players we had out of contract going into the start of the year, and I think we've done an extraordinary job to secure that.
"We will look at ways to get better clearly through the trade and free agency period, but I wouldn't of thought that [Stringer] would be one of them."
The biggest list decision awaiting Sydney is the future of gun ball-winner Warner, whose contract expires at the cessation of the 2025 season.
A product of Western Australia, Warner - who polled Brownlow votes in 12 matches this year to tally 23 overall for the season - is expected to receive substantial offers from both West Coast and Fremantle over the course of the next 12 months.
The Swans have continued discussions with the 23-year-old as both parties plan for the future, with Harley hopeful Warner will see out his career in Sydney.
"He's a big part of our scoring profile, isn't he? His ability to hit the scoreboard as a midfielder and have goal assists," Harley said.
"He's clearly, clearly a very important piece of our future going forward. He is contracted for next year, that's the positive part, and he'll be playing for us next year.
"As we have already done, we're working with him, his family and his management on what the future looks like beyond next year.
"We would love him in red and white for the rest of his career."
Sydney enter next week's trade period preparing to deal with North Melbourne in a move that will see former captain Luke Parker join the Kangaroos.
The Swans are one of just three clubs with multiple first-round draft picks for this year's AFL Draft, holding selections 17, 19 and 55 for November's intake.
