Herald Sun chief football writer Mark Robinson believes Richmond are "up to their eyeballs" in their pursuit out-of-contract Gold Coast star Tom Lynch.

The Tigers are one of the leading Victorian clubs chasing the 25-year-old, who is a free agent at season's end.

In a preview for the Herald Sun on Gold Coast's upcoming 2018 campaign, Robinson, alongside columnist David King, spoke about the Suns' chances this season, and also about Lynch's future at the club.

"Richmond are up to their eyeballs," Robinson began.

"Could you imagine adding Tommy Lynch to [Richmond]? There goes their small ball."

Lynch is the captain of the Suns, but reports are suggesting he's currently weighing up his future, and has already put contract talks on hold until the middle of the season.

Robinson believes Collingwood are also major players in the Lynch stakes, while reports also suggesting Hawthorn could be interested in the Sun.

The key forward has played 121 games for the Suns since making his debut in 2011, and has booted 234 goals at 1.93 a game.

Lynch also takes 5.97 marks per contest, and averages 14.49 disposals.
