Collingwood Magpies interim coach is yet to confirm his 2022 future, however, a surprise contender has risen to take his signature.

While Harvey could well look to take the vacant head coach role at the Magpies, it's understood West Coast Eagles coach Adam Simpson is a big fan of the former St Kilda legend.

The reports have broken in The Herald Sun this morning that Harvey will certainly have a role in the Western Australian capital if he opts to leave the Pies.

Harvey, who played 383 games at the top level for the Saints over a 20-year playing career, took over the head coaching role at Collingwood earlier this year when Nathan Buckley left the club.

It's been a horrendous season for Collingwood in their dramatic fall from grace, although a 45-point victory over the Eagles last weekend has taken them clear of the wooden spoon.

They now sit in 15th place on the table, six points clear of the North Melbourne Kangaroos, who are plastered to the bottom.

While Harvey's intentions are unclear, Collingwood have reportedly gone in different directions looking for Buckley's eventual replacement, reaching out to Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson in the past few weeks, only to be met with a blunt refual.

Former Kangaroos and Crows coaches Brad Scott and Don Pyke have also been linked to the top job at Victoria Park.
