With salary caps set at $10 million and $13 million across the SuperCoach and AFL Fantasy platforms respectively, filling every position with a premium player is simply not possible.
In order to field a team that both keeps you under the cap and allows you to be competitive, selecting a smattering of rookies is essential.
Obviously, these young names won't make up the bulk of your weekly totals, but should you select the right ones early, your bottom line and your win/loss column will look healthy.
Although we don't know whether any of these names will break through the banner in round one just yet, their pre-season track work has piqued our interest.
These are each club's rated rookies that look primed for early debuts.
Fremantle
Luke Valente (MID)
SuperCoach price - $123,900
AFL Fantasy price - $170,000
Although entering his third season on Fremantle's list, Luke Valente is still yet to crack a senior debut.
With a Fantasy ownership percentage of 32, many are tipping this fact will change come round one.
Should Valente produce even a modicum of the form that saw him average 159 points at SANFL under-18 level in 2017, he could well prove to be this season's greatest cash cow.
He was a superstar fantasy scorer at underage level but has been hampered by injury since being drafted.

Josh Treacy (RUC/FWD)
SuperCoach price - $102,400
AFL Fantasy price - $170,000
With the news that Brayden Preuss and Rowan Marshall were sidelined within the space of a handful of days, fantasy fans and super coaches were left scrambling for ruck replacements.
If you are still tossing up who to include in your R3 slot, keep Josh Treacy's name in mind.
Although almost certain to play second fiddle to Sean Darcy at centre bounces, Treacy's dual position status points to a potential inclusion in the forward line.
With Jesse Hogan's exit leaving a void within the attacking fifty and Treacy finishing 2019 as the best Victorian bottom-aged key forward in 2019, keep an eye on the ready-made rookie.
