With salary caps set at $10 million and $13 million across the SuperCoach and AFL Fantasy platforms respectively, filling every position with a premium player is simply not possible.

In order to field a team that both keeps you under the cap and allows you to be competitive, selecting a smattering of rookies is essential.

Obviously, these young names won't make up the bulk of your weekly totals, but should you select the right ones early, your bottom line and your win/loss column will look healthy.

Although we don't know whether any of these names will break through the banner in round one just yet, their pre-season track work has piqued our interest.

These are each club's rated rookies that look primed for early debuts.

Greater Western Sydney

Matt Flynn (RUC)

SuperCoach price - $123,900
AFL Fantasy price - $170,000

As previously mentioned, the previously concrete R2 and R3 positions cracked following Brayden Preuss and Rowan Marshall's tandem injuries.

With the former previously set to play sole ruck for the men in orange, the starting slot looks set to fall to Matt Flynn.

COVID and injury meant that Flynn was unable to debut last season, however, the developing ruckman was named as an emergency not once, not twice, but thrice.

If your bank balance is spread thin elsewhere, take a punt on the cheap Giant, as he appears certain to debut in round one.

Jacob Wehr (DEF)

SuperCoach price - $117,300
AFL Fantasy price - $170,000

Another in a long list of mature-aged recruits this season, Jacob Wehr looks primed to debut early for the Giants.

With Aidan Corr, Zac Williams and Heath Shaw no longer located in Western Sydney, look for Wehr to fill one of their boots.

In his 2020 season for SANFL premiers Woodville-West Torrens, the 22-year-old averaged a more than handy 75 supercoach points.
