A year after trading the opening selection of the 2022 AFL Draft, North Melbourne appear set to involve themselves in another deal for the coveted selection.
During last season's trade period, the Roos sent pick 1 to GWS - a selection eventually used on key forward prospect Aaron Cadman - with the Arden Streeters entering the draft with two top 10 selections, used on George Wardlaw and Rising Star Harry Sheezel.
And while it was the Roos that parted with the pick last year, according to reports from Callum Twomey of AFL Media, North are now in the market to win the pick at the trade table before duly selecting highly-touted draft gun Harley Reid.
Following the league's approved draft assistance package, North are presently armed with picks No.2, 14 and 19 this year, a 2024 first-rounder and two additional end-of-first-round selections.
This hefty arsenal could well be boosted in the coming weeks should the Roos land pick 3 at this year's draft as compensation for losing wantaway free agent Ben McKay.
At present, West Coast still holds the opening pick, and the key to drafting Reid, however, with continual conjecture regarding whether the Country Victorian will settle to life in Western Australia, the talented teenager could also be deemed a flight risk.
The 2023 AFL Trade Period is set to commence on Monday October 9 at 9am (AEDT).
