Defenders Back Pocket: Shannon Hurn (West Coast) Shannon Hurn won the Glendinning-Allan Medal for Western Derby 49 after he was judged best afield. Hurn finished with 32 disposals (26 kicks), eight marks, three tackles, 16 intercept possessions and 480 metres gained in the scrappy win. Full Back: Michael Hurley (Essendon) Led the defence that kept Eric Hipwood and Oscar McInerney to only two goals (after seven the week before). He also had 21 disposals (17 kicks), six marks, 11 intercept possessions and 498 metres gained. Back Pocket: Brad Sheppard (West Coast) Went unnoticed due to Hurn’s dominance but managed to finish with 27 disposals, 14 marks and 349 metres gained. Half Back: Brandon Ellis (Richmond) With Richmond missing a number of their key players, Ellis really stepped up and finished with 28 disposals, nine marks, two tackles and 433 metres gained. He also kicked a crucial goal from outside 50. Centre Half Back: Dylan Grimes (Richmond) Grimes was massive for the Tigers, particularly in the last quarter when he took a number of vital intercept marks when the game was on the line. Played a lockdown role on Robbie Gray but managed to record 17 disposals and seven marks as well. He recorded 31 disposals, ten marks, three tackles and 539 metres gained. Centre Wing: Tom Phillips (Collingwood) Phillips was one of Collingwood’s best in the win over the Dogs. He recorded 29 disposals, eight marks, and five tackles as well as kicking two goals. Centre: Patrick Cripps (Carlton) Patrick Cripps is a genuine bull. He did everything he could do to drag the struggling Blues to a close finish, recording 30 disposals, eight marks, and 12 tackles as well as kicking two goals. (Photo by Chris Hyde/Getty Images)[/caption] Wing: Andrew Gaff (West Coast) Gaff recorded 35 disposals, nine marks and four tackles in the clash against Fremantle, where his hard running and quality disposal were on full display Forwards Half Forward: Jack Billings (Saint Kilda) Billings continues to thrive in his new role up the ground. He finished with 34 disposals, six marks, five tackles and 496 metres gained. Centre Half Forward: Mitch Brown (Essendon) Brown played as a true centre half forward, evidenced by his 11 marks and three goals. He also had 25 disposals and ten score involvements. Half Forward: Matt De Boer (GWS) De Boer managed to basically tag Tim Kelly and Patrick Dangerfield out of the game. They only managed nine and 17 disposals respectively and had no impact on the game. Forward Pocket: Jack Lonie (Saint Kilda) Every time Lonie went near the ball against the Hawks it felt like something was going to happen, demonstrated by his eight scoring shots. He finished with three goals and five behinds but also managed 17 disposals and five tackles. Forward Pocket: Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti (Essendon) One of the best displays produced by a small forward in recent years. McDonald-Tipungwuti finished with 20 disposals, ten marks, three tackles and kicked seven goals. He also recorded 25 pressure acts and 12 score involvements. Followers Ruck: Brodie Grundy (Collingwood) Grundy won the ruck battle against Tim English convincingly on Friday night and finished with 58 hit outs. He was also prominent around the ground, where he recorded 23 disposals, four marks and eight tackles. Ruck Rover: Zach Merrett (Essendon) After a slow start to the year, Merrett was back to his absolute best against the in-form Lions. He finished with 35 disposals, four marks, six tackles, seven clearances and kicked a goal. Interchange Nathan Jones (Melbourne) Kicked three crucial goals that dragged the Demons back into the game and also recorded 21 disposals, four marks and three tackles while playing on a wing. Marcus Bontempelli (Western Bulldogs) Continued his stellar start to 2019, finishing with 36 disposals, three marks, six tackles, eight clearances and 598 metres gained. Just needs to improve his goal kicking. Gawn finished with 55 hit-outs, 19 disposals and five marks. Lachie Neale (Brisbane) Neale just knows how to find the footy. He finished with 40 disposals, seven marks and six tackles.
