Rumours of a monstrous 10-year deal from a Western Australian club have been put to bed as exciting key-forward Logan McDonald inking an agreement with the Sydney Swans until the cessation of 2024.
Reports emerged last night that McDonald's manager, Ben Williams, told the Swans that the Sandgroper McDonald had been offered a ludicrous 10-year deal to come home.
McDonald has stated although the initial move from Western Australia was daunting a first, however, the 19-year-old has loved the club since he walked through the doors.
After being selected with pick four in the 2020 National AFL Draft, McDonald has built a tight bond with the young Bloods' list as they look towards pushing for another finals tilt.
โThe Sydney Swans is the only place I ever wanted to be. This is a great club, and I am grateful to be able to commit for another couple of years,โ McDonald told sydneyswans.com.auย on Tuesday.
โEver since I walked through the doors, Iโve loved every minute of it.
โThe team is such a close-knit group here. Iโve come from Perth not really knowing anyone in Sydney, but Iโve built a close bond with a lot of the younger boys and Iโve loved every minute of it.
โItโs great to come into this club every day, in this beautiful city, with my best mates and get to work. I think weโre building something really special here. This young group is really driven and motivated and Iโm really excited to see where we can take it.โ
Within an official statement, the Swans Executive General Manager Charlie Gardiner is delighted with McDonald's commitment that the young key-forward is a "terrific young man" with a strong work ethic.
โWeโre delighted Logan has recommitted to the club,โ Gardiner said.
โLogan is clearly an exciting talent and has shown the potential to perform at the top level, but it is his work ethic and drive to improve that has impressed us the most. He is a terrific young man with a great attitude, so we know he is going to do everything possible to get the best out of himself and his teammates.
โHe has made an excellent start to his AFL career and weโre confident he has a bright future as part of our young forward group.โ
McDonald missed out on a Rising Star nomination in 2021 but was impressive with five goals in his first two games with 3.1 and 11 possessions on debut against the Brisbane Lions.
The Western Australian had a quiet outing during Sydney's Round 1 victory over geographic rivals GWS, managing only five disposals and a solitary behind.
McDonald and the Swans will face Geelong at the SCG this Friday night, with the youngster's key forward partner, Lance Franklin, now only four goals shy of the magic 1000 mark.
