St Kilda forward Mitchito Owens has been cleared of any major damage to his shoulder (AC joint) following expert consultation on Monday.
Vision from Saturday's practice match showed Owens was moved under the ball by Power ruckman Jordan Sweet as a high inside 50 delivery hung above a gathering pack at RSEA Park in the second quarter.
The soft nudge accelerated Owens' momentum into the back of Miles Bergman, leaving the 21-year-old wincing and holding his shoulder.
Soon after, the Saints ruled Owens out for the rest of the game.
However, in a positive update, St Kilda EGM Football David Misson revealed that the mobile forward is every chance to feature in Round 1 but will continue to be assessed after surgery was ruled out of his recovery.
"It was a great result to get the all-clear from specialists this (Monday) morning," EGM Football David Misson said.
"Mitch is already feeling much better, but we'll still have to monitor his progress over the next two weeks as we lead into the start of our season."
It is the third pushing action into oncoming traffic that has resulted in injury this pre-season, with Sam Lalor suffering a fractured jaw and concussion after a shove from behind by West Coast's Reuben Ginbey, while premiership Lion Brandon Starcevich collided head-first with Crows forward Luke Pedlar after a nudge from Dan Curtin.
Starcevich will miss Opening Round due to concussion protocols, while Lalor will be racing to reach fitness in time for Round 1.
The injuries could potentially prompt a change in the AFL rules to prevent injuries from occurring - whether it would be a kneejerk reaction or a correct preventative measure is up for debate.

Port Adelaide assistant coach Chad Cornes said earlier in the week that his club had not discussed a rule change with umpires yet.
"We have umpires out here regularly and they're always really open with questions that we have for them. That's not one that we've raised with them just yet, but if it continues, obviously we'll be made aware of it," Cornes said.
"The AFL will send emails to all the coaches at things the umpires are looking at. So if it's a trend, I'm sure we'll be really aware of it."
Owens' teammate and fellow forward Cooper Sharman was also confirmed to have fractured his thumb during the third quarter of the contest and will require surgery in the coming days.
In better news, Rowan Marshall and Jack Sinclair trained well on Saturday and will return to full training ahead of Round 1 in two weeks.
Zak Jones and Hunter Clark featured in the VFL over the weekend in their bid to return to play.
