The AFLW's priority signing period has officially kicked off with a big move being made on Wednesday, though questions about both the compensation and fairness of the league's decision remain.
Chloe Molloy became the first PSP mover, with the veteran Pie making the switch to the Swans on Wednesday, with the signing period due to run until March 8.
Though the announcement of the priority period came through earlier in the week, the league has said the decision on what compensation will be awarded to teams will come at the end of the period, just prior to the Sign and Trade Period which will run from March 10 to March 20.
Despite the trade period still over two weeks away, PSP signings will encourage clubs to get unofficial deals secured early. The Pies, who have already lost Molloy, are facing additional departures as St Kilda set their trade targets.
The Pies reportedly have their eyes on Saints midfielder Tarni White, per womens.afl, potentially opening up a trade for St Kilda to nab Jaimee Lambert and Steph Chiocci, having been linked to the pair over the off-season.
White has played 31 games for the club since her debut in 2020, averaging 11.8 disposals across her ten games last season, but is reportedly keen to depart Moorabbin before season eight kicks off.
Interested in a move to Collingwood, the Saints are reportedly seeking Lambert and Chiocci as part of a player-swap deal.
Lambert, who has played 61 games across her time at both the Bulldogs and Collingwood, is firming as a likely Saint next season, while Chiocci, a co-captain at the Pies, has also had her name thrown in the trade speculation.
The 34-year-old managed 11 games in season seven, bringing her career tally to 55, but the Pies are reportedly hesitant to part ways with their co-captain as rival clubs lay siege on their talent.
Collingwood won seven games last season to finish in 7th position, while the Saints continued to struggle, ending the year in 13th spot with just three wins on the board.
The priority signing period will run until 2pm on Wednesday, March 8.
