With only two days remaining in the 2024 AFL Trade Period, St Kilda is eyeing a move for Carlton defender Brodie Kemp to bolster its backline, as reported by Channel 7's Mitch Cleary.

Kemp, 23, has emerged as a solid and versatile talent, recording 21 games in 2024 and proving his flexibility by stepping into Carlton's forward line late in the season following Charlie Curnow's foot injury. Across the year, he averaged 14 disposals, 6.2 marks, and 2.2 tackles.

His potential move to St Kilda would address the need for a third-tall defender following Josh Battle's departure to Hawthorn, strengthening the Saints' key defensive structure alongside All-Australian Callum Wilkie and Dougal Howard, who recently signed a contract extension.

St Kilda's list boss, Steve Silvagni, who originally drafted Kemp in 2019 during his tenure with Carlton, could be influential in securing Kemp's services for the Saints.

In preparation, the Saints recently traded their Pick 27 to Brisbane, receiving Picks 32 and 45, which could facilitate Kemp's acquisition. This pick swap also offers flexibility in pursuing other high-profile targets, such as Western Bulldogs midfielder Jack Macrae, who has shown interest in joining the Saints.

St Kilda's current draft hand, which includes Picks 7, 8, 32, 45, and 47, allows them to explore further trades or bolster their squad through this year's 'super draft', setting them up for strategic moves as they finalise their trade period negotiations.
