Over the past few seasons, the Giants have seen its talent move to other clubs as the lure of home is enough for players to return.
And SEN's Sam McClure believes that this could be the case for injury-plagued forward Jonathon Patton.
The former No.1 pick from Rowville, Victoria, has suffered three serious knee injuries, with his most recent coming against Hawthorn in round 15 2018.
Ironically, McClure believes that the Giants forward could be on his way to Waverley Park and it won't take him much to get there.
“I think he’ll be there next year,” McClure said on SEN Mornings.
Prompting Nick Riewoldt to ask: “What would they have to give up for him?
“Similar to the Tom Scully situation?”
McClure replied: “Yeah, I don’t think much.
“He’s done three knees now. He’s on a lot of money.
“The Giants have got enough money to pay (Stephen) Coniglio, so put that to one side.
“They’ve got (Lachie) Whitfield coming out of contact at the end of next year. They’ve got (Tim) Taranto and (Jacob) Hopper who look like they might be $700,000 players themselves soon.
“They’ve got to keep turning the wheel. It’s a deal that will make sense for all parties.”
The 26-year-old is contracted until the end of 2020 and it's very likely he won't take part in season 2019.
Since his debut in 2012, Patton has notched up 89 games and kicked 130 goals.
