Senior Hawthorn coach Sam Mitchell is out of hospital, but not yet ready to travel home to Australia.
Mitchell spent a stint in hospital - including Christmas Day - after contracting pneumonia while on holidays in the United States of America.
He was hospitalised at the New York University Hospital, and it's believed he was discharged on Thursday.
The club confirmed earlier this week that he was improving, and it has now been revealed by The Herald Sun and 7 News that he is out of hospital and recovering well.
The coach is not yet well enough to travel home to Australia, and so will remain in New York until an assessment is made that he can handle the trip home.
Pneumonia is a condition which impacts the lungs and breathing, and so no chances will be taken over his timeline to return home, although it's believed he will be back in Australia for the resumption of pre-season training.
Reports suggest Hawthorn are due back on the training paddock from January 10, which gives the coach around a week and a half to make the trip back from New York.
His flight will likely be one which stops over in Auckland, with the New York - Auckland route being one of the world's longest.
Mitchell has coached Hawthorn since taking over from Alastair Clarkson at the end of the 2021 campaign.
