Darcy Cameron is expected to be sidelined for a couple of weeks after suffering a hamstring injury at training earlier in the week, but is understood to have avoided serious injury.

Cameron failed to complete training on Wednesday, sent for scans to assess the damage to his right hamstring.

Despite initial concerns, scans revealed that Cameron has suffered a minor hamstring strain and was back running at the Holden Centre on Friday morning, per reports from afl.com.au.

The 27-year-old played a career-high 24 games in 2022 in his third year as a Magpie, averaging 13 disposals and 17.6 hit-outs per game.

With Brodie Grundy's off-season move to Melbourne, Cameron is expected to become an even more vital part of Collingwood's 2023 makeup, alongside fellow ruck Mason Cox.

While the club has delivered no firm timeline on Cameron's return to full training, it is expected the hamstring strain shouldn't set back his pre-season preparation.

Cameron is expected to play in Collingwood's pre-season hit-outs, with matches scheduled against Carlton and Hawthorn.

Elsewhere at the Pies, newly appointed captain Darcy Moore (osteomyelitis), Nathan Kreuger (shoulder reconstruction) and Finlay Macrae (back) are continuing their recoveries from their respective injuries.

Moore suffered a bone infection in his leg in December which has led to a delay in his pre-season planning, but is gradually increasing his training load as he eyes a return to full training prior to the pre-season matches kicking off.
