St Kilda veteran Sean Dempster will play on into a 13th AFL season, after signing a one-year contract extension.

Dempster, 32, showed no signs of slowing down this season, ranking in the top five at St Kilda for marks, one percenters and disposal efficiency.

Saints CEO Ameet Bains said the club is thrilled to have Dempster's experience at the club for another season.

โ€œWeโ€™re thrilled to have Sean sign on for next year after another consistent season in 2016.โ€ Bains told Saints.com.au.

โ€œSean leads by example with his impressive approach to training and preparation and he has been extremely reliable and durable over the years.

โ€œWith his level of experience, Sean will remain a strong presence down back and will continue to mentor our younger players and assist in their development.โ€

Dempster said he is looking forward to helping theย young group develop after an impressive 2016 season.

โ€œIโ€™m really happy to have signed on for another season with the Saints after whatโ€™s been an exciting year on and off the field.โ€ Dempster told Saints.com.au.

โ€œWeโ€™re starting to see some reward for our efforts but we know that weโ€™ll need to put in a lot of hard work if we want to take the next step in 2017.

โ€œIโ€™m enjoying football and my body feels good so Iโ€™m looking forward to being able to play at a high level next year.โ€
