Melbourne have confirmed young utility Andy Moniz-Wakefield will miss the entire 2025 season after suffering injuries to his ACL, MCL and PCL in an incident from Saturday's match simulation session against North Melbourne.
The injury came late into the contest at Arden Street, with Moniz-Wakefield needing assistance to come from the field.
Scans have since confirmed the crushing news that the 21-year-old's campaign has come to a close before it began.
โUnfortunately, scans have confirmed what we all feared, with Andy to miss the season with an injury to his ACL, MCL and PCL,โ Demons football boss Alan Richardson said in a club update.
โThis is incredibly disappointing news for Andy, who has had a really strong pre-season. We have been so impressed by his attitude and will to get better, and he was starting to reap the rewards of his hard work.
โAndy will undergo surgery in the near future, before beginning to work through his recovery. As a club, we will wrap our arms around him and make sure he is well-supported.
โDespite being on the sidelines, we know Andy will still play an important role for us this season, particularly with the positive energy he brings to the club every single day.โ
Melbourne's injury woes have been compounded further with the club revealing defender Marty Hore will need hand surgery.
Hore sustained a hurt hand early into the clash with the Roos, with the senior backman needing to go under the knife.
The full extent of Hore's recovery timeline will be determined at a later date.
โIt's another unfortunate outcome after of Saturday's game, with Marty needing to undergo surgery on his hand,โ Richardson said.
โOnce Marty has met with the surgeon, we will have a better understanding of what his recovery timelines will look like.โ
Melbourne are already without forward Shane McAdam for the 2025 season after he sustained a ruptured Achilles over a week ago.
