A second perpetrator has been officially charged for the assault of retired North Melbourne champion Jack Ziebell last weekend.

The Arden Street stalwart was set upon last Saturday night outside a popular South Yarra nightspot by two men, as he was pushed onto Commercial Road before being punched and kicked at approximately 1am.

After a 21-year-old Narre Warren man was charged earlier in the week with affray, intentionally causing injury, and assault by kicking, a second man, a 29-year-old also from Narre Warren, has also been charged with affray.

Both men were bailed and will appear before the Melbourne Magistrates Court in October.

It is understood Ziebell required facial reconstruction surgery following the disconcerting incident, with the North Melbourne Football Club confirming the surgery was a success and a road to recovery has been mapped out.

Ziebell had played his final AFL game at the MCG last Saturday afternoon and was celebrating the occasion with family, friends, and team officials in the evening.

Ziebell joined long-time teammate Ben Cunnington in retirement after capping a storied AFL career with the Kangaroos.
