Geelong chief executive Brian Cook has lauded the performance of champion captain Joel Selwood.

Selwood underwent surgery on his hamstring earlier this month after playing through tendonitis throughout the season.

โ€œHe played with hamstring tendonitis for a fair bit of last year, particularly the second half," he said on SEN Breakfast.

โ€œHeโ€™s an amazing person and an amazing leader, I thought he was our best player in the finals.โ€

Selwood won't return to full training until January.
Cook said this morning in an interview with 1116 SEN that the club will consider offering the 31-year-old a one-year contract extension at the end of 2021.

โ€œA fit Joel Selwood is pretty handy," he said.

โ€œYou would wait to see how he recovers from his latest operation, but you would also see how he goes during the year."
