Geelong captain Joel Selwood has shown he is ready for round one with a blistering performance in the Cats' VFL practice match against Richmond at Punt Road on Friday night.
Selwood endured an interrupted pre-season due to a foot injury and failed to play a NAB Challenge match.
Geelong opted to test the skipper in the VFL scratch match to ensure Selwood is ready for the season opener against the Hawks and he showed no signs of his injury, getting through his first hit out for 2016 unscathed.
The three-time premiership star finished with 34 disposals, 19 of which were contested, 11 tackles, nine clearances, six inside 50s and two goals.
Geelong's VFL side won the match 12.12 84 to Richmond's VFL side 8.5 53.
