The 2021 season was full of impressive goals, marks and memorable wins, but some feel-good stories emerged too as the league and the country adjusted to a new look AFL season.

7. Melbourne's drought-breaking premiership 

There was no story bigger in the 2021 season than Melbourne's drought-breaking premiership win.

After 57 long years, wooden spoons and Sunday afternoon slots at the MCG, the Dees finally got to lift the premiership cup again, albeit in Perth. The scenes were unmatched as the season came to an end, from Max Gawn's after-the-siren goal to secure the minor premiership, to an 83-point demolition of the Cats in the Preliminary final.

The grand final itself, against the Western Bulldogs, didn't finish as a nail-biting edition for the ages but it was history-making nonetheless. The 74-point win was never in doubt as the fourth quarter played out, with a hungry Melbourne side eager to give their fans something to smile about.
