The Brisbane Lions have shared more news around the wellbeing of former premiership Lion Aaron Shattock, with an update penned by his family posted in a club statement.

Shattock was involved in a disastrous work accident where an excavator crushed the former footballer when it rolled, leading to severe chest injuries that required surgery.

He has since been placed in an induced coma, with the Shattock Family stating he remains in a sedated condition as more surgeries commence.

"Aaron remains sedated and in Intensive Care at GCUH," the family said.

"He underwent surgery on his fractured ribs and broken/dislocated arm yesterday, which was successful.

"We are hopeful for his recovery and will provide further updates as he makes progress.

"Our family is deeply grateful for the ongoing support, love, and prayers from everyone.

"Your kindness means the world to us and continues to give us strength during this time."

Shattock, 44, played 57 games with the Lions over five years and was a part of the 2002 premiership side. He would play two seasons at Port Adelaide before being delisted and moving back to Queensland, where he has since become a life member at QAFL club Labrador.
