Carlton forward Jack Silvagni is a live chance to feature for the Blues at the start of the 2025 season as he looks to return from an ACL injury sustained almost 12 months ago.
Silvagni's 2024 campaign was over before it began, with the father-son forward struck down by the season-ending knee injury midway through his pre-season preparations.
The setback followed an injury-hit season the year prior, with further knee issues bringing an end to his 2023 campaign in July.
His long road back to fitness hasn't come without "a few hiccups" along the way, but Silvagni is now eyeing the Blues' pre-season matches for an on-field return.
The 27-year-old will ramp up his workloads later this month and begin full training with teammates, with Silvagni tellingย SENย he's in the mix to play at the start of the coming season should all go well.
"I was able to join in on a couple of drills on camp and my load progressed a lot since the start of September. My knee is feeling good, body is feeling good," Silvagni said.
"The recovery was a little bit slower than expected with a few hiccups here and there. I've been in and out of surgery a little bit.
"If everything goes well I should be able to get a couple of practice games in. Things are progressing really well.
"I'll be integrating back into full training hopefully by the end of the month which is really exciting."
Carlton are scheduled to face GWS in Canberra on Friday, February 28 as part of the 2025 Community Series, with a match simulation session - which is likely to fall the week prior - yet to be confirmed by the club.
The Blues will face Richmond at the MCG on Thursday, March 13 to commence their home and away campaign, with Silvagni eyeing a role in Michael Voss' side.
The exact position Silvagni will hold this year remains unclear, with Voss confirming earlier this pre-season that the 194cm forward has been training in defence.
The decision to utilise Silvagni with the backline comes as the club also looks to use defender Brodie Kemp forward, hoping to find greater flexibility among the squad.
