Collingwood midfielder Brayden Sier is on track to pen a two-year contract extension despite his recent basketball controversy, as reported by The Herald Sun.

Sier, 21, boasts a ton of potential and that's a sentiment shared by the Pies. After coming close to re-signing last week, it was discovered that Sier had lied to the club about playing a game of basketball while recovering from a calf injury.

Appearing in a local Greensborough league under the name "Phill Inn", the youngster was fined $5000 and ordered to take part in community service for the rest of the year.

Sier showed promise last year including being one of the club's best players in the Grand Final, but has only played six senior games this year due to injuries. Despite everything he is still expected to be back up for selection in September.

The two-year extension is expected to be tied up soon and will keep him at the club until the end of 2021, by which time Collingwood hopes he will have improved his off-field professionalism and become a more mature footballer.
