Melbourne senior coach Simon Goodwin has publically addressed Brodie Grundy's hushed meeting with a rival club last week.

After making his way from Collingwood to Melbourne last off-season, the 29-year-old ruckman, who is still contracted for another four seasons, now has every chance of landing at a third club in as many years after suffering from a lack of senior opportunity at the Dees in the back half of this season.

With champion ruckman Max Gawn thriving as the sole tall in the middle of Goodwin's side, Grundy appears to be surveying his options, having reportedly met with a powerful Port Adelaide contingent last week in Melbourne.

However, according to Goodwin on Wednesday, Melbourne has "no issue" with the ruckman exploring his off-season options.

"No issue from my end," Goodwin said on Wednesday. "We're a mature industry now.

"There are probably 50 players around the league that would be meeting with different clubs at this time of year. It's pretty commonplace in the industry these days."

Grundy hails from Sturt in South Australia and has previously been linked to the Power during trade periods past.

"Brodie's a professional footballer," Goodwin continued.

"He knows he's got a four-year contract and he knows he's going to keep pushing this year to play finals footy.

"We're across what's going on around there. Our list manager and the managers are involved and we understand what's going on.

"I don't need to have that conversation with Brodie, I know what he does from a day-to-day perspective. I know he's going to train to a really high level and be ready to perform."

As Grundy is currently contracted, a trade deal would need to be struck between Melbourne and Port Adelaide in order for the ruckman to return home, with the Power currently possessing selections 37, 43, 72, and 90 at this November's National Draft.

This year's trade space opens on October 9.

Goodwin's Demons will do battle with the Magpies this Thursday night at the MCG to open this year's finals campaign.
