West Coast skipper Luke Shuey is facing the prospect of a month out of action after injuring his ankle during the Eagles' Round 6 loss to Port Adelaide on Saturday.
According to the club's medical team, Shuey also reported tightness in his hamstring, a previous cause of concern for the captain, having played just 28 senior games since the start of the 2021 season.
While the extent of Shuey's ailing joint is not yet known, with the Norm Smith medallist still awaiting the results of scans, the midfielder has joined a mammoth list of teammates already on the sidelines.
At present, 17 players are currently calling Lathlain's casualty ward home, including former skipper Shannon Hurn and All-Australians Liam Ryan, Jeremy McGovern and Nic Naitanui.
Speaking on Wednesday, West Coast's Head of Health Mark Finucane claimed the club wouldn't be rushing Shuey's back into the fray.
“Luke got caught up in the tackle in the first quarter and injured his ankle,” Finucane said.
“After some treatment, it was re-taped he went back out but just felt like he couldn't function to the level required, so he was subbed out.
“After the game, he cooled down and unfortunately he's aware of some hamstring tightness as well. With the scan results of the ankle, the ligament damage and some bone bruising, we are going to take a cautious approach with Luke both with the ankle injury and his soft tissue history.”
Hurn, however, could be set to make his return against Carlton this weekend, with Finucane stressing the veteran's selection would rely on training form.
“Shannon is a test this week," he added.
"He just needs to get through training, he did some extra training today and (if he completes) main training later in the week he will be available for Saturday.”
The ailing Eagles are set to host the wayward Blues at Optus Stadium on Saturday night.
