Alec Waterman, son of dual premiership Eagle Chris, is set to receive a train-on invite at Essendon, reports The West Australian's Jordan McArdle.
The 24-year old is hoping for a second chance at AFL level having played eight games for West Coast from 2015-2016.
However, the father-son selection's stint at the club was hampered by a long-term illness that forced him to sit out two full seasons of football.
Waterman impressively bounced back with a strong 2020 campaign in the WAFL - booting 26 goals from 10 matches to win the Claremont Tigers' best and fairest in a grand final season.
The midfielder-turned-forward could get a lifeline with Essendon - who have vacant list spots to fill ahead of the 2021 season.
The Bombers have two spots open with the possibility of a third by moving Irving Mosquito onto the long-term injury list after the small forward suffered an ACL injury late in 2020.
Waterman's manager Paul Peos believes he will make the most of his training opportunity at Tullamarine.
“He’s done all the work to get this opportunity with Essendon and I’m confident he’s got what it takes to earn a spot on their list,” Peos told The West Australian.
“He’s ready, both physically and mentally, for another shot in the AFL.
“It’s a great story of resilience considering where he’s come from after his illness a few years ago and he deserves a second chance.”
Sydney Swans academy graduate Angus Baker is also set to receive a train-on opportunity at the Bombers.
