Pre-season supplemental selection (SSP) hopeful Dom Brew has suffered a fresh setback in his long-awaited chance at becoming an AFL player, coming down with an injury.

Brew, 27, has been overlooked in 10 AFL Drafts, but is as close as he has ever been to joining the elite level after recently securing an opportunity to train with the Western Bulldogs over the summer months.

The Bulldogs have welcomed him down to the Kennel as a train-on prospect.

However, unfortunately for Brew, a quad strain suffered at training is the latest speed bump in his journey, potentially derailing his chances of becoming an AFL player.

In a bid to defy all the odds, the Werribee captain has put a last-ditch attempt to live out his childhood dream, penning 18 letters to all AFL clubs in the hope that one gives him a chance.

Brew was a significant contributor to the Tigers' 2024 premiership over Souhport, while he also claimed the VFL Coaches' MVP award and was named captain of the VFL Team of the Year on top of the coveted JJ Liston Trophy.

The Werribee champion is hopeful of following in the footsteps of former Werribee teammates Shaun Mannagh and Riley Bice.

Mannagh joined Geelong 12 months ago as a mature-aged recruit and didn't look out of place at AFL level while Bice was selected with Pick 41 by Sydney in last month's National Draft.

Brew's determination and leadership qualities make him an appealing option for the Bulldogs as they look to finalise their 2025 list.

The SSP period runs up until Thursday, December 19, 2024, and will re-open midway through January until two weeks before Opening Round.
